During the past several decades, the ship sinking accidents frequently happen because of water penetration. A insight study into the incidents reveals that the failure of bulkheads and the following multi-compartment flooding is an significant cause. And the numerous of accidents imply that the design of bulkhead is defective or the reserve strength is insufficient.Because of their high bending and shear stiffness and relatively low fabrication cost and the working procedure is simple, corrugated bulkheads are widely adopted in ship and marine structures especially for large bulk carries and oil tankers. Therefore it is of great significance to discuss the buckling and ultimate strength of corrugated bulkheads.On the basis of former research, the thesis gives a detailed buckling and ultimate strength analysis of corrugated bulkheads. Main work is as follows:1) Summarize the existing theory and experiments about corrugated bulkheads, and finish a benchmark study of the typical Paik experiments, and determine the constrains, load cases and research orientation.2) Numerical calculation is carried for a corrugated bulkheads taken from an actual ship, separately discuss the influence to the ultimate strength by buckling modes, buttress construction, constrain types, angle of the groove profile, plate thickness and material. Some beneficial conclusions are made according to the above mentioned FEM calculations.3) On the basis of optimize module of Ansys, carry on an optimal design under the condition of the fixed steel consume and the fixed ultimate strength respectively, to insure that the optimized structure possess better strength performance at the same cost.
