As the ship's power heart, a marine diesel engine is the basic guarantee for the safe and reliable operation of a ship. Monitoring technology for the diesel engine can promptly discover potential failure information and alarm to avoid a malignant accident. Shaft power is one of the most important performance parameters of marine power systems, and contactless shaft power measurement system can continuously assess the working condition of the power system overall. Sulzer 6RTA52U diesel engine is taken as the research object, and the main propulsion plant monitoring technology is processed and researched by measuring and analyzing the shaft power, the piston ring wear and the indicator diagram at the tanker Daqing 454. The main works of the paper are the following:1) The shaft power principle based on magneto-resistive effect is researched on. The relationship between the shaft power and the torsional angle through deformation geometry physic and static is gotten. The results show that the shaft power is proportional to the torsional angle and the shaft speed. The real-time shaft power is being monitored by calculating the torsional angle and shaft speed on line.2) The torsion signal processing method is researched on. The phase difference of the standard sinusoidal signal simulated by the Lab VIEW is calculated by using the method of correlation analysis and spectrum analysis; and the error analysis is carried out. It is shown that two methods can meet the actual accuracy requirement under the ideal signal and noise of ratio (SNR).3) The hardware structure of the torque signal sensor and conditioning circuit is designed, the data acquisition system is selected and the main propulsion plant monitoring system is developed.4) The accuracy of the indicated diagram and the torque measurement is verified by the experimental results on the main propulsion plant of tanker Daqing 454. The signals of the piston ring wear based on magnetic sensor technology are measured and analyzed.
