In the highway construction, geosynthetic materials have been widely applied in reinforcement soil project. If reinforced materials are buried in the soil, they can spread the stress of soil, increase the modulus of soil, limit the lateral displacement of soil; they can also increase the friction between the soil and other materials to improve the stability of the soil and the building. However, reinforced materials under sustained load will result in creep, which will increase deformation with time increasing. Creep is one of the key factors to determine the success or failure of the reinforcement project. This paper reviews several basic principles of creep of geosynthetics , the factors of creep properties, creep empirical formula and creep model. The deformation of the reinforced structure at embankment, cut-to-fill sections and wall (abutment) back were calculated and analyzed by numerical analysis methods. Compared deformation and stress level of growth before and after creep such as the settlement deformation of the top of the subgrade, subgrade lateral displacement, geogrid strain and the soil pressure of wall (abutment) back and obtained how the enforcements creep influence the deformation of the structure. Based on the analysis of the definition and determination of creep reduction factor , put forward the extrapolation method to process the data of creep curve and under long-term creep strength or strain to determine the method of creep reduction factor. Based on the results of numerical analysis, calculate the creep reduction factor of geosynthetics of the reinforced structure at embankment ,cut-to-fill sections and wall (abutment) back and propose the range of the creep reduction factor in geosynthtics for highway engineering accordingly. This research results help to improve the research of the creep properties of geosynthetics and provide a reference and guidance for the reinforcement earth project.
