For the simulation steps and model scale, different simulation softwares will be used to simulate the same system. The conversions of the data and models in different simulation softwares are achievable and necessary. To illustrate the effectiveness of the converisons proposed in this paper, comparisons have been made for each individual kind of element model between BPA and PSCAD/EMTDC. Taking the BPA simulation result as reference the simulation results are analyzed and the difference had been modified. The network which hybrid the 500kv transmission systems of east, central,west south power grid, UHVAC backbone network and nine UHVDC transmission systems is modeled in PSCAD/EMTDC based on dynamic equivalent model data of BPA. The simulation result shows that the steady and dynamic characteristics of electrical-magnetic model can satisfy the demand of simulation speed and accuracy which can be used to the stability analysis of the studied AC/DC system. After the conversions according to the proposed conversion logic and strateg, that the two different simulation softwares described the same real system can be asured.In China, data of power grid models in BPA is complete, the work of this paper has an important reference on the conversion from BPA data which contains HVDC and power electronic devices to PSCAD. It will create a positive role in promoting the simulation of electromagnetic transient problems of HVDC transmission system analysis in China.
