Reservoir operation chart is significant for guiding the reasonable operation of a reservoir. Generally, conventional operation chart is more emphasis on reliability requirements and less taking into account efficiency indicators. In this paper, some deficiencies of conventional drawing the long-term reservoir operation chart are overcome by using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. The model based on particle swarm optimization algorithm for drawing the reservoir operation chart is founded to meet the reservoir reliability and utilization requirements. The validity and superiority of the model is verified by comparing with conventional methods. And better results can be obtained by adopting this model in practical production. Normally, the optimization theory is difficult to apply in the actual operation and the results of conventional operation are also not ideal, so considering the above flaw, general rule is summarized by statistically analyzing the optimization results and then modifies the conventional operation. This amendment can better solve the problems of combining optimization theory with the actual production and practical example is given to testify this theory in the paper.
