By investigating the on-line fault diagnosis technologies of power systems, the configuration of an on-line fault diagnosis system for regional power networks is designed and the diagnosis system is developed for a real regional power network in this thesis. The fault diagnosis system is designed by using a .NET-based three-tire architecture. Based on the CIM model, the system uses object-oriented knowledge representation method to represent all kinds of relations of different devices in the grid. The system acquires the data of telemeter, relay protections and breakers'operation from SCADA, and carries the inference process based on the relationship of cause-consequence among relaying devices, breakers and the faulted equipment, and the protection allocation database, then the system merges the diagnosis results from different information to determine the faulted devices finally by using the DS theory. The fault diagnosis system has already been put into on-line operation in the regional power grid of Cangzhou, and its practicability and effectiveness has been verified by the diagnosis results given by the system.
