Contemporary civil engineering has gradually spread to the field of geological hazards, water resources, mining, ports, docks, marine engeneering, industrial and civil buildings, municipal bridges and roads etc.And industrial and civil buildings gradually have developed from the multi-storey buildings and simple low-rise structures into a high-level or even super high-rise buildings and structures. In the design process of ports, docks, power lines and marine and other engineering, the horizontal loads (such as ship loading, wave forces, flow forces, etc.) are increasingly becoming an important factor in the design, which should be considered and sometimes even become the controlling effect. In the design of high-rise even the super-high-rise building construction, as well as the design of high-rise structures, the design of lateral loads such as wind loads and seismic forces etc. has also become the controlling factor. And it is very important to calculate the lateral bearing capacity and displacement of the piles in the design. In bridge engineering, piles bear great vertical loads. Moreover, since the existence of the waves, wind, ground vibration, the ship impact forces and the braking forces of vehicles, piles also have to bear greater lateral loads.In the result, the stress state of the piles is more complex. When bearing lateral loads, the relationship of the pile-soil system is complex,because influencing factors are more random.Therefore, the study of bearing characteristics of the pile under the action of the lateral loads becomes more and more necessary.This paper summarizes the work traits, different types of failure mechanism, as well as the analytical and calculation methods of the single laterally loaded pile.Then the static load test method of the pile bearing lateral loads is introduced.The test is carried out, whose results are analyzed.An important conclusion which can be used in engineering practice is obtainded. The gray system method is used to predict its deformation curve, the critical load and ultimate load capacity,based on the test results. The GM(1,1) model is used to analyze the test data in order to establish a generalized time(lateral displacement) sequence of lateral loads. And then accuracy test are carried out.In order to modify the error of the model, the residual model is used to carry out the residual modification.In the result a higher precision model is obtained to predict the critical load.
