Over weight freight is a new concept which was proposed with the volume of the large goods increased in recent years. The concept was put forward so late that many practitioners do not know its origin and mix it up with overload, out-of-gauge, heavy haul and concentrated weight. At present the railway freight transportation regulations for over weight freight are not sound and basic theoretical research less, which has brought many problems on carrying out the large goods work, caused in recent years rail freight transport in the large freight share of the market been declining.This paper first starts from the concept of overweight freight of the railway to compare and distinguish several concepts which are easy to be confused in railway freight transportation. And then the status and problems of the overweight transportation are described. The facility equipments related to overweight freight transportation and the basic principle of the calculation for grade of overweight freight are introduced simply. After analyzed the characteristics of simply supported beams of railway and cars for large and long goods, the way to judge the worst load position when the cars for large and long goods transport variety spans simply supported beams is summed, and the overweight side effects of bias level load factor can be reached. In order to address the series of problems caused by overweight car and improve freight transportation security, article overweight factors are analyzed, especially partial set of factors that affect car conducted are researched deeply. The paper brings forward some reasonable suggestions to overweight freight transportation management, from the organization of the transportation, infrastructure, equipment management and other aspects.The way to judge the worst load position when the cars for large and long goods transport variety spans simply supported beams in this paper can be used to solve to the overweight rating calculation problems; Car partial load factor can solve the problem to calculate the overweight grade existing in the rules which do not consider the loading situation of the cars; on the other hand, analysis of influencing factors on overweight and recommendations of overweight cargo transport management can provide basis for the management of the transport management to make decisions.
