Mechanical Properties Testing Machine(MPTM), which is a standard testing equipment, is one of the most usual and important facilities in material performance testing of both the producing industry and all levels of quality checking departments. The design of MPTM test and control software is a highly interdisciplinary and comprehensive project, involving a lot of knowledge in the high-tech domain.As an automatic testing system, the test and control system of MPTM, combining automatic detection with motion control, possesses characters such as real-time working, scalability and multi-threaded task handling. The software of MPTM system can be not only capable of data acquisition and processing, but also the precise control of actuator. Nowadays, it is moving in the direction of digital, intelligence, and human.At first, the composition, principle and development status of MPTM test and control software are discussed. On the basis of comparing and analyzing of some advanced domestic and foreign MPTM test and control software, the methods of software development by the use of Java language and the idea of modular design are put heavy emphasis on. Moreover, some key technologies in the development are described.Beside the data acquisition and processing and the motion control of actuator, the Java-based software is easy to use, of intuitive interface and more humane. The application of multi-thread data acquisition and real time data processing online can ensure the data accuracy in its collection process; software registration mechanisms are used to prevent illegal piracy of software, protecting the interests of software users; the research of curve scaling and moving can help greatly in accurate curve calculation; the idea of modular design, in favor of identifying the function and character of each module of which we can separately make requirement analysis and design project, is convenient for system upgrade so that it will improve the code reusability to a large extent and reduce difficult of software debugging in the development process. This software can be essential to meet the requirements of thef MPTM control system.
