With the increasing cargo throughput of the port, the size and the weight of cranes gets larger and more speeder, which require higher quality of impact resistance. As a kind of safety equipments, buffer has been used widely in such project fields as the port crane, ship, traffic, electricity and building, etc. But, there are actually few buffer products now with ideal service ability, because of the restriction of the material, the craftwork, etc. Therefore, it is very important to develop a new type buffer.The new hydro-pneumatic buffer of writer own design has applied new structure and utilized the characteristic of nitrogen, such as no fatigue and small elastic modulus. It made the capability and the power-absorption ability prior, the rebound time short and the cushion force increased sharply. It's a kind of ideal serviceability and can be used in such project field as motive power machine, etc.The paper introduced the operation principle, the structure characteristics and the performance of the new buffer. Application of computational fluid dynamics, hydraulic and pneumatic transmission of knowledge and establish a physical model of new hydro-pneumatic buffer to put up static and dynamic simulation by MATLAB/ SIMULINK software, draw buffering force-distance. According to simulation results, which are confirmed by test's data, the influence of some parameters to the cushioning performance is discussed, and then, a conclusion that the speed limit valve parameters are the most important factors for cushioning is got. For a better cushioning performance of the buffer, choosing the diameter of damping valve, the length of valve disk and the advanced force and rigidity of springs as design variables, making the parameter more reasonable. Finally, a series of proper data that can achieve well cushion performance, which shows steady force and high capacity, is got.
