The research on human automation influence on the safety of navigation on bridge is based on evaluating the contributory impact of the bridge crew and the bridge automation machines in marine traffic accidents, thus how they affect safety of the navigation of the ship. The research work starts by introducing some important concepts such as ship's navigation safety, navigation processes, automated navigation equipments on Ships Bridge, accident theories, automations and their roles in safety of navigation and human performance and errors. Then concentrating on the marine traffic accidents of collision and grounding, studies on collision and grounding accidents reports, drawn from three different Marine accidents investigation boards, were done and major recurring causal factors as pertain to automation and bridge crew were extracted. Fault Tree is employed to analyze in order to find out the chain of reaction of the contributing factors to grounding and collision accidents. The proportional contributory figures of these causal factors to the particular accident type studied are calculated using a ratio calculation formula. This is followed by a qualitative analysis to these contributing factors. Finally recommendations aiming at reducing/eliminating the contributing factors to collision and grounding accidents are put forward.
