Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) is a wholly new way of man-machine interface. It is dose not depend on peripheral nerves and muscles, but directly obtain information from brain to communicate with outside world. The most important purposes for the BCI comes mainly from the hope that the system can provide an external environment communication and control channel for those with severe motor disabilities but normal thoughts.Based on the knowledge of the using performance of various types of BCI systems, the work for this paper conduct a exploratory study. For the first time, this work combines BCI technology and a set of rehabilitation-assisting therapy instrument based on ARM microprocessor, and designs a whole system: Converting the ERD/ERS generated when imagining left and right hand movement in the primary sensor motor areas, to controlling signals which control the rehabilitation-assisting therapy instrument. In on-line mode, we can control the instrument training through the serial port. The system of rehabilitation-assisting based on BCI consists of several parts, such as signal acquisition, signal procession, limb rehabilitation-assisted instrument and controlling circuit. Signal procession is most important. Oriented to the left vs. right hand motor imagery based BCI, research was carried out for the small number of samples from the public data sets of the 2nd International BCI Algorithm Contests. The features are obtained by using Discrete wavelet transform; Then, classifiers designed by Fisher-LDA, Support Vector Machine were studied. By comparison, the final classification results showed that Support Vector Machine false classification rate was the lowest that could well recognize the two tasks left vs. right hand motor imagery, and gained a ideal classification results. The rehabilitation-assisting therapy instrument is designed based on ARM microprocessor, including integration technology and module software. There are two modes of working about the instrument. One of them is alone used as a rehabilitation instrument; The other is used in on-line, and combined with the BCI through the serial port. It was obviously seen from results that user can successfully and steadily finish a series of operations. It proved that this system is feasible.
