Asphalt treated base generally paved on the semi-rigid subbase which could effectly prevent the reflection cracks. It has many well performance ,such as high shear strength ,high tensile strength and fatigue resistance. The research and application of this material in our nation is just at the beginning. It's longtime good performance could cause well economical efficiency. With these outstanding features, ATB will have perfect prospect of wildly application.The study begin with the analysis of the mechanical property and sevice performance of ATB, then the performance of ATB were advanced based on the strength formation theory and structure property. According to gradation theories incorporated with VMA request, four gradations of ATB mixture were designed, they were named N, I, B and S. After that, the study used Marshall method and strength index method to determine the best bitumen content. With the bitumen content, performance of the ATB mixture were tested, these tests contain high-temperature stability, water stability,low-temperature anti-cracking performance and fatigue resistance. Following there test results tow gradation scope based on high-temperature stability and water stability were advanced.At the last of this study, the causes of segregation in the ATB pavement constructions were analyzed, the control measures and detection methods of segregation were advanced.
