The Public Utility Of City-Information System Design

As an important component in city environment system, public facilities coordinate the relationship between a city and its people by offering convenience to the users. Because of its special functions, city public facilities are very familiar fixed facilities to us. The widespread and high using coefficient also accelerated this trend. With the rapid development of social economy, people's demand of higher living quality has also grown fast. As sorts of pubic facilities sustain the outdoor activities, it has become an urgent need to build and improve these facilities.With the advent of information age, Network Technology has affected every aspect of our lives. As an indispensable element of city, the design of public facilities should break the traditional conception-city streets furniture. The design should introduce Internet technology to be multifunctional, thus people's lives would become more convenient and more efficient.As a significant branch in public facilities, information facilities change people's lives and accelerate the travel speed of information as well. It has becoming more and more important in modern city public environment. Information system facilities contain marks, shop brands, commercial advertisements, announcements, direct boards, public phones, postboxes, clocks, landmarks and so on. Not only in public facilities, but also in city environment information facilities play an important role contributed by its communication media status and information spreading function. Well-designed information facilities can spread information, even add the flavor of modern; contrarily badly designed ones can only pollute our visions.The definition of city public facilities and design essentials are investigated firstly, then the design situation of information facilities is analyzed. In the analysis, classification method is used to divide and research different information facilities separately and sequentially by their using categories. After the deficiency of present facilitates design is pointed out, the developing trend of Chinese information facilities in digital information age is prospected. Design methods and examples are wished to benefit future research and design.
