With the development of the power system, the increasing short-circuit capacity is a growing problem, not only directly affecting the choice of electrical equipment and investment, but also to the power system safe and stable operation of the great hidden dangers. Thus, the application of effective measures to limit the short circuit in a reasonable and lower level is of great significance. After years of research and development, there are now full of many specialized fault current limiters, especially for some superconducting current limiters and solid-state current limiters, which have been in used in some demonstration projects and greatly accelerate the process of current limiters in-depth research and technology.This paper outlines the technology and developing status of current limiter and give an overview of SFCL, magnetic saturation of short-circuit current limiter, PTC resistance current limiter and solid-state current limiter on their working principle. This is followed with more detailed introduction on the principles, the circuit topology and control strategy of superconducting current limiter. At the same time MATLAB / SIMULINK is used to be a platform for the large number of theoretical simulation. By comparing the current limits for the advantages and disadvantages and based on BUCK circuit, a new type of solid-state current limiter for the circuit topology is proposed. Detailed analysis of the current limiter for new works is made in the paper. Considering with the basic measures of current control such as the current peak control, mean control, hysteresis control and so on, a new method of the current control plays all the advantages of current control talked above. At the same time through the simulation of the current limit for the steady state and dynamic process are verified. The Paper once again introduces the parameters of the buffer circuits of a new solid-state current limiter. And a complicated description of testing circuits and control circuits can be achieved. Finally, the current limit for prototype testing and commissioning of the waveform are given to justify the effect on limiting the short-current of the new solid-state current limiter.
