This two decades, large-span structures, including the space truss structure,reticulated shell structure,stereo-truss structure,cable structure,membrane structure and all hybrid space structure, obtained a rapid development. Structural style and architectural image emerged in an endless stream. With the increasing of long-span space structure, and in the wake of global climate and environment changes,natural disaster aggravation, most especially frequent typhoon and earthquakes, all which make more structure engineers attach importance to engineering structure. Therefore, structural wind engineering aroused more and more experts and scholars'concern.Calculation of wind load is the fundamental purpose of structural wind engineering. In the calculation of wind load, to get shape coefficient is an important work. Based on the Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD), this article study the problems about wind load and shape coefficient. Utilized numerical simulation software(FLUENT), to build large amount of project models for numerical calculating,analyzing and contrasting, and to calculate some typical space structures(undefinded in GB, including elliptic cylinder,ellipsoid,hyperboloid,conical surface,ridge-valley surface and cantilevered roof) by numerical simulation method. Then, analysed the characteristics and distribution of wind load and shape coefficient, further, discussed the data and results which provided practical conclusions and suggestions for project and study.The main contents of this paper are as follows:1. The development of large-span structure and domestic research situation of space structureIntroduce the development of large-span structures and the main types of space structure, and mainly discusses the characteristics and development situation of two main space structure types. In the meantime, elaborates the domestic development and research results of space structure, including theory research, stability study, wind-resistance and earthquake-resistance study, morphological analysis, wind vibration and coupling problem of high sensitivity structure . 2. Calculation of wind load and shape coefficientIntroduce the computational wind engineering and expounds calculation of wind load. Discuss the development and research results of wind load, and elaborate the methods to get shape coefficient. Also discussed theory and method of wind tunnel test, besides, briefly discussed several generic structures'shape coefficient.3. Numerical simulation theory of wind loadThe computational fluid dynamics consider the air as incompressible fluids. In this paper, It will be introduced the basic theory of numerical simulation about wind load, including three basic equations of viscous liquid, Reynolds equation, boundary conditions of stress model, the wall function, the finite volume method and related numerical technique. Then, it present the commercial software Fluent6.2 and its'application in CWE. Furthermore, it discussed the inlet turbulent flow and solving procedures in computational fluid.4. Research about shape coefficient of space reticulated shellBased on the project, numerical models are established and calculated for getting wind load and shape coefficient. Then, analysing and comparing the results of numerical simulation and wind tunnel test, for the further understanding about the characteristic and distribution of coal shed's wind load and shape coefficient. Simultaneously, utilized above-mentioned method, and built abundant models of cylinder reticulated shell project for numerical simulation. Then, study the shape coefficient of the coal shed systematically and got matching results and conclusions. In addition, discussed the problems about the numerical simulation modeling efficiency, and proposed the corresponding solution and optimization methods.5. Research about several general space structures'shape coefficientUtilized the numerical simulation method, processed and analysed the projects, including several typical structures(ellipsoid,hyperboloid,conical surface,ridge-valley surface and cantilevered roof) . Then, study the characteristics and distribution of shape coefficient gotten briefly, and showed the divisions of each structure and the matching value of shape coefficients (Cp),which could provide professionals theoretical reference and suggestions for project work.
