Designing and analyzing of gear box with the Virtual Prototyping (VP) is can be benefit for shortening the exploitation period, playing down the cost, improving the quality of the product, which is going to be the main trend of the technique researching of gear box. The study of the dynamic modeling, simulation research, output angular displacement control of a certain mixed-transmission gear box with VP by Pro/E and ADAMS was focus on by this paper. The work has been done as follows:At first, the three demission entity models of the gear box parts were modeled by Pro/E. Then, the assembled model was created with the bottom to up method. Kinematics simulation was implemented to get rid of the intervene region, which insured the accuracy of the entity model.Next, the entity model was transformed to ADAMS for the virtual prototype modeling. Based on ADAMS the modeling of the virtual prototype was studied and two modeling methods with the parameters calculated were presented which respectively based on the theories of multi-body contact and torsion vibration. The model based on the theories of multi-body contact treated all the gears and shafts as rigid body, which taken no account of the flexibility. The simulation gave a visualized description of the meshing process and got the dynamic meshing force with the given input velocity and load. The simulation also disclosed the periodicity waving phenomena of the system's output, which induced by stiffness activation and meshing impact activation. Model based on the theories of torsion vibration treated the gear system as a vibrated system, which considered the meshing stiffness and the torsion stiffness and neglected the meshing contact process. The simulation results gave the inherent characteristics and the vibration response.At last, for the requirement of the gear box used in real project, an output angular displacement control system was modeled by ADAMS/View based on the mechanical virtual prototype. A set of control parameters with which the control system fulfilled the requirement were gained after the design of experiments (DOE) of the parameters were implemented.With The above research, this paper gave the methods and steps of modeling the virtual prototype of gear box, from which, modeling base on theories of torsion vibration by ADAMS and modeling of the output control system by ADAMS/View were both the first time to be applied. The results showed that the virtual prototype and the output angular displacement control system presented in this paper could reflect the dynamic transmission characteristics of the gear system, which can be used in real project analysis.
