The loess is widely distributed in North and Northwest China, which is the main material of highway subgrade filling in these areas. However, loess is a special soil with the features of porosity development and collapsibility, which will let soil sink with water so that the road will be damaged. It will be greatly increased expenditure if the loess being treated specially. The research of the loess compaction characteristics and using the correct method of compaction and compaction process are main measures to improve the bearing capacity and anti-deformation ability of the loess roadbed.Beginning with the physical property of loess, this article studies the pellet form liquid limit and limit plastic of the loess. According to the heavy compact experiment, the paper gets the compaction curve of the loess and then confirms optimum moisture content and biggest dry density of the loess. Using the model of production-impaction and vibration roller model,the paper do the compact experiment of the loess in the laboratory. The compaction characteristic of the loess is studied through three condition that are impact adds vibratory compaction,static compaction adds impact and vibratory compaction, impact adds vibratory compaction. The distributing and transferring regulation of the degree of compaction is analyzed under three condition and the compaction theory in the impaction-vibration is researched. In the experiment, some pressure sensors are used to collect the dynamic pressure signal, which is processed and analyzed to reveal the distributing and transferring regulation in theimpaction-vibration. Researches in this paper provide the basic theory to solve the difficult problem of compaction of the loess.Finally, this paper design parameters for the impaction and vibration composite compact technology equipment which provide a convenient and efficient way for the production and series of the equipment.
