With the continuous development and progress of the modern metallurgical industry and equipment modernization level, mechanical equipment develops toward the high performance, high efficiency, high automation and high reliability direction. Gear box is widely used as a general-purpose component in mechanical equipment, its monitoring and diagnosis is very necessary. Not only it can shorten the repair time, but also raises diagnostic accuracy,which improves repairing quality and acquires economic benefits dramatically.Wavelet analysis is a theory developing rapidly in recent years. It was successfully used in the field of image processing, communications, and physical geography and etc. In this paper, wavelet analysis will be applied to the field of fault diagnosis; we carry out theoretical research and instance analysis in the application of wavelet analysis in gearbox fault diagnosis.This thesis researches the significance of wavelet analysis in fault diagnosis, describes the fault type of gear box, and introduces wavelet analysis theory as well as the application of wavelet transformation. By the use of wavelet multi-resolution analysis and the nature of Mallat algorithm, we directly extract in the diagnosis of useful information. The application of wavelet analysis in filtering, noise elimination and the detection of jump signal explains the advantages of wavelet analysis and the necessity of wavelet analysis in equipment fault diagnosis.In this paper, using vibration analysis method acquires vibration signals in the high-rolling mill's gearbox. In Matlab software, the use of Mallat algorithm and db10 wavelet function carries out wavelet analysis to collected vibration signal, and we proceed with a single frequency extraction, thus it determines whether the original signal is the fault signal or not. This method can judge fault signals and base on Matlab. In LabVIEW software, we can take advantage of new designed online monitoring and fault diagnosis system. The method of wavelet analysis combines with conventional spectral analysis, it can be better fault diagnosis and prediction, and can achieve better diagnostic results, and greatly enhance online monitoring capacity of the mill.Wavelet analysis is a signal analysis method, wavelet analysis is applied to fault diagnosis of the gear box and other mechanical equipment is very essential. Wavelet theory and application to early fault of the gear box has a very good detection effect, and it plays a considerable significant role on ensure safe, reliable operation to some key equipment. Therefore, wavelet analysis has broad application prospect, and is a popular and applied new technique.
