The Internal Combustion engine is being used widely and holds the largest amount's role in the heat energy power. IC engine has many advantages such as the square-built power scope, the long speed range, the economical engine. Slot-and-crank mechanism is often selected to transmit power by IC engine, but these mechanisms directly bring low-efficiency, vibration, and noise into the engine. Based on a thinking of developing new Transmission Mechanism of Power (TMP) in the article, Then, new findings of"Rack-Over Running Clutch"mechanism and"Flexible body-Over Running Clutch"are adopted to replace the Slot-and-crank. Both of them have better transmission efficiency, lower side pressure, no dead center, and can design a longer cylinder for increasing the piston's stroke. The main work is organized as follows:(1) Based on the in-depth comprehension and analysis to the advantages and disadvantages of the arisen TMP, a thinking of developing new TMP is introduced. Namely, in order to improve the efficiency of transmission of power, an effective approach is recommended to separate the rigid motion connection between the piston and the output shaft by adding Over Running Clutch, and to make sure piston can produce the biggest torque and power with enough stoke under the considerable pressure.(2) Origin research on the new engine which adopts the"Rack-Over Running Clutch"mechanism as TMP, for short, this new engine can be called Rack-Clutch engine. In this part, some layouts of the new engine are illustrated, related design problems about the main drive parts of this novelty are solved, then, analysis and simulation is used to validate the function of the new engine and FEA offer the data of stability on its pivotal part. Finally, the design of its valve and starting system is completed by adding link mechanism between the piston and the corresponding part. The results show that: The new Rack-Clutch Engine is composed with the power unit, which has the full name of Opposed Piston Engine with"Rack-Over Running Clutch"Mechanism. The number and the space layout of unit can be configured according to the application. The piston is moved with the sinusoid.(3) Dynamics analysis and simulation of"Flexible body-Over Running Clutch"mechanism is actualized. In this part. The paper has done some research on the law between the flexible body and the Over Running Clutch, the librations and the tension status of the flexible body, the elastic sliding phenomenon. It also finds the approach to restrain librations, reduce abrasion and increase the fatigue life of the flexible body. The results show that: The bigger Young's Modulus and the smaller line density will reduce the librations and improve its fatigue life; the initial load should be configured near the work load and it will avoid the large change of the tension. The drive ability of the"Flexible body-Over Running Clutch"mechanism is also determined by the initial load.(4) Design and analysis of the pivotal part in the new TMP which adopt the wire rope and detailed force calculation on the reel is done. Then, the drum of the difference reel is designed under the finite element optimal method. At last, the paper designed the tester for studying the dynamic characteristics of the mechanical system and validating its feasibility of approved in IC engine.
