Based on consulting a lot of documents, detailed results on the seismic performance and mechanics capability of steel staggered truss system by low reversed cyclic loading tests and the finite-element method calculation are presented in this paper.According to the current codes, an 8-story, 1:8 scale model of staggered truss structure is designed and manufactured, and the experimental research on its mechanics capability and seismic performance is carried out under low reversed cyclic loads. Meanwhile the hysterisis loops and skeleton curve are also given. The hysteresis behavior, deformation capacity, bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation, rigidity degeneration, failure mechanism, etc are studied. And this paper gives the restoring force model of steel staggered truss system. The results indicate that the proper designed steel staggered truss system has good seismic mechanics performance.Nonlinear finite element analysis is used to simulate the test model under low-reversed cyclic loading. The results of finite element anasysis are fit close to that of the test. So the finite element analysis method's correctness is validated. And then, a series of parametric study are followed by using nonlinear finite element method, the parametric include structure form, building height, vierendeel panal length, the ratio of building height and width, the ratio of the truss span and its height. The results of finite element analyse show that the ground mixed staggered truss fits for Earthquake-resistance area. With the increase of building height, vierendeel panal length, the ratio of building height and width, the seismic performance of staggered truss is decreased, and with the increse of the ratio of truss span and its height, the seismic performance of staggered truss is increases.
