The paper takes the high fills culvert as an experimental segment > which lies in k45+015 of the highway from GuangYuan to BaZhong in SiChuan province. The EPS(Expand Polystyrene) blocks as reducing-load material are laid down to the top and side of the culverts at the same time as reducing-load measures to research rigid culverts applied in civil engineering, and different EPS density and thickness are laid down to the culverts conducted a field test. Main research contents on culverts as follows: Magnitude and distribution of vertical earth pressure on the top of culverts and their changes with soil-filled height; Magnitude and distribution of horizontal earth pressure on the side walls of culverts and their changes with soil-filled height;The stress-strain of EPS blocks changes;Magnitude of settlement difference between culvert body and filled side and their changes with soil-filled height; Connection with the test data of reducing-load measure of culvert the culvert, compared calculation results of two kinds of theories reducing-load formula with measure data, and Analysis of two types of formulas are applicable;For the identification of critical density and thickness of EPS blocks in the design of reducing-load measure of culvert,have a preliminary study and two formulas are advanced,and compared to pre-existing reducing-load of culverts experimental data, indicating that the certain applicability of the two formulas; Takes this experimental culverts as an example to redesign the structural of the culvert in the condition of having reducing-load measures, and applied to the field test segment, compared with former project construction cost,to prove a new way of designing culverts have economic value; The finite element computation is carried out with the MARC software, and the result is compared with the scene actual result according to the calculation data of experimental culverts;This results can be provided for culverts engineering design, also can be used as revision basis of the concerning design specifications,rule and manual of relevant department.
