Permanent magnet gear is a kind of non-contact power transmission device which is realized through magnetic coupling force produced by the permanent magnets between active and passive rotors. It has good applying foreground in the situation which is exigent to airproof and vibration characteristics. However, permanent magnet gear as a kind of magnetic transmission device, its transmission torque is much lower when compared with traditional mechanical gear or worm and gear. Therefore, focusing on the problem of low transmission torque, this paper makes deep research on the structural optimization aspect.Firstly, based on the finite element software, analysis about the working principle and performances of the coaxial coupling, the parallel-axis coupling and the facing coupling structures are carried out. Further more, this paper makes a comparison about the merits and defects of each structure, which provides great instruction for studying on the high torque permanent magnetic gear.Secondly, according to the merits and defects analysis of the three common couplings, the structure of high torque permanent magnetic gear is derived. And the transmission principle and structure feature are deduced, which confirms the ability of high torque transmission theoretically.Thirdly, the radial and the axial magnetic circuit structures'high torque magnetic gears are analyzed. The simulation analysis of the radial structure is made with 2D finite element method, which verifies the transmission nature. Considering the practical installation and mounting problems, the model structure with axial magnetic circuit is designed. And it is analyzed using 3D finite element method, which certifies the feasibility of the prototype.Lastly, tests about the designed model with axial magnetic circuit structure are carried out and the comparison of the test and simulation results is analyzed, which indicates the consistency of the practical and simulation results.
