The application of Active-Power Compensation Technology in power systems can not only reduce power line losses and save the energy resoures, it can also improve the quality of the power. In this paper,we will statement the exist of the Active-Power and its harms to the power systems, then we give the principle of Active-Power Compensation and its sorts. As one develop direction of Power Electronics Technology, semiconductor switches controlling Active-Work Compensation receives more and more attention because of its green environmental protection for power systerms. We introduce some circuits of this sorts and alalysis present a series compesation circuit--Magnetic Energy Recovery Switch .As a series compesation circuit, MERS has compact configuration and flexible control. The basic principle of MERS is that control capacitor's series inject reactance using semiconductor switches in circuit to make resonance between inductance and capacitor, then PF is improved. On the basis of refering to a large number of literature, this paper introdces the configuration and operation state of MERS , analyze three modes and the conditions respectively when MERS works in AC circuit. At last,we introduce some characteristics of the circuit and give some real applications.Based on the MERS compesation circuit, analysis it modeling and simulation in SIMULINK.The final results of it clerly show the action of MERS unit in improving PF,we can even gain the unity PF by PWM contol。Because the exist of the swichs and capacitors in the circuit, harmonics will appear in the circuit and the voitage of the load is not sine wave ,but we can use filter to improve it.
