Earthquake is a serious natural disaster, which threaten the production and life of human society. Therefor, the research of earthquake has a close very relationship with human lives and societal properties. China is one of the counties which are suffered by the earthquake disaster seriously in the world. There are about 80% of the land area located in the seismic zone in our country, the lose caused by the earthquake is very huge every year, the most serious damage of the constructions caused by the earthquake is happened in the rural areas. With the development of the economy in the rural areas, the seismic and the isolation of the constructions in the rural areas become more and more important. Based on the theories and the application results at present, using combined isolation rubber bearing as a seismic isolation seems to be a mature method , due to the expensive cost and the complex construction, so the combined isolation rubber is not suit for the rural areas. Therefore, the paper proposes a new steel-asphalt isolation lay which has a low cost and uncomplicated construction.Firstly, the basic principle and advantages of the base isolation are introduced in this paper, then, proposing a new steel-asphalt isolation lay and introducing its structure and characteristic. Secondly, the theoretical analysis of the simplified isolation lay model is carried out, the paper analyzes the effect of the parameters of the isolation lay on the isolation, and explores the feasibility of the steel-asphalt isolation lay theoretically. Using the rigid mass block in place of the low building which has a larger rigidity, the simulated test on shaking table is carried out. The result showes that the isolation lay has the effective isolation effect, the peak value of acceleration of the mass block is weakened by 40%~60% when inputting different earthquake waves. The steel of the isolation lay works in the elastic range when the peak value of the earthquake waves is below 0.2g. The property that the isolation lay could reset automatically can satisfy the requirements of the seismic design. Theβ_a increases and the relative displacement between the upper beam and the low beam of the isolation lay when the larger peak value of earthquake wave is inputted.
