Strength theory is a classical problem in soil mechanics. The generalized non-linear strength theory has been confirmed that it can be used to describe the non-linear characteristics of strengths of various materials, such as rock, contrete.Because of its stronger structure properties, the loess formed unique mechanics properties and engineering properties.By some true triaxial tests and triaxial compression tests, the paper discusses the applicability of the generalized non-linear strength theory on describing the non-linear characteristics of strengths of loess respectively on theπplane and the meridian plane, the paper also discusses the changed of the strength parameters of loess.Based on the generalized non-linear strength theory and Satake's stress condition in plane strain state, the theoretical calculation formula of strength parametersφPS,cPS is proposed. The paper discusses the variation of strength parameterφPS changes byφTC and (qe/qc)pr,the relationship betweenφPS andφPS-SMP is revealed and the validity ofφPS is also verified by various test datas. The paper showes that the strength parameterφPS-SMP based on the SMP failure contains definite safety stores, especially whenφTC is larger. From the paper,we can get the conclusion that the generalized non-linear strength theory can give a better description on the strength properties of the materials.
