The lifeline systems, such as highway transportation system,power supply system,water supply system,combustible gas system,medicine treatment system and fire control system, etc are very important to modern city. Subjected to earthquake, once the lifeline systems destroyed, the whole society will be greatly hampered because of losing of municipal service function. So it is a very significant task to predict disaster or vulnerability of the lifeline system. This paper gives a systematic study on the fragility analysis of pier which is the most vulnerable member in a aqueduct based on numerical simulation.Vulnerability estimation analyses of aqueduct usually have to select some parameter or index to reflect their seismic resistance capacity, associate with actual earthquake,experiences and test results, and then to classify the damage state according to different seismic parameters and hazard potentials. Vulnerability estimation analyses of aqueduct include estimation of economic loses besides damage prediction. This dissertation focuses on a single-column reinforced concrete aqueduct and following results are attained:1) The fragility analysis is systematically studied for the aqueduct pier system in the earthquake excitation. Through a lot of analysis, the influences to the fragility curves and the seismic risk are studied.2) Discuss the index of seismic dynamic strength and the damage index, which are the two important indexes of seismic vulnerability analysis. Determine the calculation method of damage index of aqueduct pier under different failure modes, based on taking the seismic peak ground acceleration PGA as the seismic dynamic strength and referencing the literature.3) Take the simplified model of aqueduct pier as the research subject to research the vulnerability of the easiest damage specimen of aqueduct pier, which is under the lateral level of seismic action. Put forward the analysis method of establishing the curve of seismic vulnerability based on the numerical simulation, and give the curve of seismic vulnerability taking the seismic peak ground acceleration PGA as the seismic dynamic strength.4) Analyze the factor acting resistance attenuation of structure subject, and put forward the probabilistic estimation method of changing damage and the definition formula of seismic risk in the operation period of the structure, which is degenerating year by year.In the finality, the problem requiring further studies are discussed.
