Adobe is an old kind of building material, gradually; the modern building material and structural style replaced the traditional residential housing. But the implementation of the earthquake safety project in rural residential housing of Xinjiang Autonomous Region puts the adobe and rammed earth rural house on the government agenda. Different from the other masonry material, there are special mechanical characteristics of adobe masonry, but there is no correlation of test standards or specifications, so it is necessary to make a further numerical simulation study on the basic mechanical characteristics and seismics resistance behaviors of adobe masonry.Rural is a weak link in the fortification against earthquakes. Without housing design and construction management, the capability in earthquake resistance of the building is poor. The earthquake damage in the past showed that the earthquake caused serious damages to the rural housing. Based on the data of South Xinjiang cause of earthquake damage, the paper gets the seismic damage index of different structural styles and earthquake intensity, describes the damage of rural housing, analyzes the cause of Xinjiang earthquake, and points out the strengthening or reconstructing technical measure according to numerical simulation.Three different kinds of abode wall and timber frame composite wall in thickness under three different value of vectical loads,with the influence of five different kinds of hole sizes, are calculated with elastic-plastic FEM. Through analyzes and contrasts between abode wall and composite wall, the initial cracks and cracks load, crack shape and crack trend of development,ultimate load and ultimate displacement, ductility, the extent of the hole size influence of wall are analyzed and capacity-displacement curves are depicted.And this papers also analyzed the lateral resistance capacities factors with orthogonal test. Based on this, simplification formula of the lateral resistance capacities of both kinds of walls is put forward. With relativity of numerical simulation, it is nearly consistent, which lays the foundation for abode wall design. In addition, seismic effects of both plain abode wall and timber frame composite wall under different level earthquakes of frequent intensity, basic intensity and rare intensity are estimated. It also shows that the research can be used as the provision for the transformation and seismic reinforcement of traditional residential buildings in rural.
