Final clarifier is an important unit of activated sludge process and often affects effluent quality in WWTP.On the base of the present research status and future development at home and abroad, the operation of final clarifier was studied by theoretical analysis, experiments and numerical simulation methods. Firstly,the function and characteristic of final clarifier were analyzed in theory. Based on the data gained by site settling test, the figure of state point was plotted. The practical operation of final clarifier in a WWTP was analyzed and studied by the state point analysis (SPA). Secondary, a visual software based the experiment dates is designed to optimize the operation of the final clarifier. Finally, with the help of Fluent software, the changes of velocity and concentration field in different cases in circular clarifier were studied by numerical simulation. The results can be used as theoretical warrant for optimizing the body structure of final clarifier.
