It is very necessary to monitor and detect the rotor bar breaking, which is one of the common induction motor fault. This paper focuses on the detection of the rotor bar breaking under the steady and the starting conditions of induction motors with light-load,by analyzing the different fault feature of the speed spectrum, and determine whether the rotor bar breaking is present or not. This article also analyzed the non-stationary starting current,by using Short Time Fourier Transforms (STFT) and to detect the rotor bar breaking fault. In this paper, residual voltage after AC dump is also used for the fault detection. All these methods have been verified by simulation and experimental results. Finally,a comprehensive detection strategy, suitable for induction motors with light-load,is recommended.
