| The use of laminated bamboo sheets (on GluBam) as the main materials of building structure is an important research focus of The Institute of Modern Bamboo, Timber and Composite Structures of Hunan University.According to the examination of existing problems of the materials and the conventional utilization of bamboo resources, this paper introduces the design and installation of prefabricated bamboo building in details. The performance such as fire resisting performance,anti-seismic performance were conducted based on experiments and analysis. The main studies include,(1) An overview of the characteristics of modern bamboo structures is provided along with the introduction of research activities of Modern Bamboo, Timber and Composite Structures of Hunan University.(2) This thesis discusses the design and installation of prefabricated bamboo building in detail. And this thesis also introduces the calculation of the bamboo structure.(3) Experiments were conducted on structural elements of modern bamboo structures. The mechanical properties of laminated bamboo columns in axial compressions were particularly studied.(4) A fire test of a full-scale prefabricated bamboo house was conducted to verify the fire resisting performance. In the test, we measured the time from begin to collapse of the main structure of the house. Fire test of a typical light gauge steel mobile house was also conducted as a comparison. Both inside and outside the housing wall temperatures were measured to analyze the performance of wall insulation. The tests provided that the modern bamboo GluBam prefabricated building had much superior fire-resistance compared with the conventional light-gauge steel prefabricated building. In addition, fire power simulation software FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) was used to analyze the fire resisting performance and the results of simulation were compared with the experimental results.(5) One prefabricated bamboo house was constructed and tested by simple over turning to verify the seismic performance. The full-scale model building was ahchered on a steel perimeter foundation frame. The frame was lifted and tilt for 90 degree to apply the full gravity load laterally to the structure. The tests were conducted in both longitudinal and transverse directions, respectively. The tests validated the sufficient lateral resisitance of the prefabricated GluBam building.(6) The thesis also introduces the project of deployment of prefabricated GluBam building to sereral elementary schools in Sichuan, which was devastated in the May 12 , 2008 Great Wenchuan earthquake. |
