A new method for preventing failure of regenerative braking through regulating power factor of train PWM rectifier is proposed. The range of power factor angle required for preventing voltage rise is analyzed. Based on predictive current PWM control scheme, this paper improves control strategy of train PWM rectifier to achieve power factor regulation. The loss of reactive power transmission is taken into account. The paper calculates the magnitude of power factor angle regulation required for voltage regulation. The effectiveness of the control schemes was confirmed by simulations and experiments.
