Two 800MW supercritical thermal power generating units imported from Russia have been installed in the first phase project of SuiZhong Power Plant.But the generator and transform group protection device goes wrong frequently during the commissioning and operation of the two units,which is a serious threat to the unit safety and the stable operation of Notheast,North China power grid system.Aiming at the existing problems of generator-transform group protection device of the two 800MW units from Russia,this paper discussed the necessity and feasibility of technical renovation for the device.Characteristics of the generator-transformer unit protection were also introduced,and combined with the actual situation of the units,the protection of the generating units were redesigned.Then by combining with features of the new generator and transform group protection device RCS-985A,the protection principle was explained.After the implementation of the renovation project of the generator-transformer unit protection in SuiZhong Power Plant,the protection device was reformed to a microprocessor-based relay device matched with large capacity generating units.The actual operation proved that the renovation has achieved the desired results.The protection configuration scheme introduced in this paper absorbed the idea of dual-main and dual-backup in line microprocessor-based protection,and used a new hardware platform,a new software technoloty,and finally realized the integration of large generator-transformer unit protection.
