Plunge pool is widely used to discharge flood from high arch dam while the inverted-arch floor is a newly introduced measure for the protection of the river floor when flood is discharged. Its stability is obviously superior to that of flat floor pool and it is the most competent container of energy dissipation for"confined valley, great water flux and high arch dam"applications. In recent years Chinese scholars have conducted thorough studies on the stability of inverted-arch floor in terms of the pressure received by it, shapes of inverted-arch and current features, but there is no one who has concerned the stability of inverted-arch floor in different damage modes. Through numerical analysis method, this paper analyzes the non-linear static properties of inverted-arch floor and the dynamic response in the period of flood discharge with experiment based on the plunge pool with new inverted-arch type for Laxiwa arch dam. The main harvests of this dissertation include as follows:(1) It studies the interaction mechanism of the inverted-arch plunge pool floor-arch–support-anchor-bedrock. To fully reflect the overall force characteristics of the plunge pool, this paper analyzes its stability which includes different ways of anchor (no anchor, anchor of different freedom length, etc.) and the same freedom length with different thickness of block so as to study the mechanism of anchor steel.(2) With the water pressure of the top surfaces, it's the arch abutment and the arch support may be opened. When the temperature rises or drops, the gaps or dislocation between them will be changed. Considered the situation of normal operation and maintenance, this paper studies the stability of arch support on the role of the anti-reverse load, temperature load and uplift pressure.(3) When the high dam is in the period of flood discharge, plunge pool bears a huge impact of dynamic-water load on the high-speed water. If sealing joints between the blocks are damaged, it is likely to cause chain damage among blocks. Through the hydraulic elastic model experiment, this paper studies the characteristics of uplift force in different damage modes. At the same time, it establishes a finite element model and analyzes the impact of different damage modes to the stability of the floor.
