As the representative of modern electrical machines, Switched Reluctance Machines combine the electrical machine theories with the modern power electronics technique and the advanced microprocessor control technique, which not only has low-cost strong structure, good fault-tolerant and heat-resistant capability but also has excellent controllability. Thus, the Switched Reluctance Machine as motor is widely used in drives and speed regulation fields. In these ten years, more and more attention is also paid to its application in generation fields, which interests many specialists and scholars. The Switched Reluctance Generator (SRG) and its control system are researched in this dissertation. From the perspectives of flux linkage paths, the operating principle of SRG is analyzed considering electromechanical energy conversion. Its operation is strongly affected by the nonlinear characteristics of the magnetic materials, so it is different from the conventional machine. Based on Fourier series expansion, a simplified and fast-built flux linkage analytical model for the SRG is proposed. Then a general simulation method of SRG is established on the basis of simplified flux-linkage analytical model. In this dissertation, the control strategies and laws of the SRG are studied including. In order to acquire optimal performance in all conditions, based on the optimal control of flux-linkage, a simple controller is proposed that on-line determines the optimal firing angles. Optimal static and dynamic performances are attained through the optimal algorithm. Combined with wind turbine characteristics, an experimental research on SRG is developed based on maximum power capture. Finally, a digital controller of SRG is developed based on DSP and CPLD. Experiments have been done on this practical system. The experimental results validated and deepened the conclusions drawn from theoretical research. The compare between the results from experiments and simulation also testified the practicability of the mathematical models presented in this paper.
