Engineering practical experience and examination indicates that due to the high axial compressive ratio columns which caused by ultralimit exceptional axial compressive ratio of concrete columns. Technically, the common methods we adopt include the Reinforced Concrete Columns which with button stem; the Steel Reinforced Concrete Columns; the Concrete Filled Steel Tubular Columns and so on. But which columnar order is more economical and rational, that is, how the scientific selection about the high axial compressive ratio columns, in this paper is to be studied and discussed.In this paper, though analyzing about the function and cost of reinforced concrete columns by Value Engineering theory, we knows that the sort order about importance of columns'functions is"Security","serviceability","technology"and"economical efficiency"; the cost of material dominate the direct cost of the high axial compressive ratio columns, in which mainly is steel's cost. Base on foregoing, the paper technically and economically analyzed the lectotype of the high axial compressive ratio columns with the methods called"grading method"and"function weighting efficient method", for the project demonstration and evaluation. The result shows: When the axial compressive ratio of the floors'columns ultralimit mostly, the Steel Reinforced Concrete Columns usually be the first choice because of its high-performance and low cost; the Reinforced Concrete Columns which with button stem with upper function and less cost acts the optimized way; the Concrete Filled Steel Tubular Columns must be selected carefully because of its least score, higher cost, complex technics.The study of this paper shows that the value engineering the perfect union of engineering design theory and economic analysis, which make design of projects more scientific, reasonable and economical, thus, play an important role in optimizing engineer design.The conclusion of this paper would supply the necessary reference and foundation for engineer design departments when the high axial compressive ratio columns'selection and decision.
