Considering that electromagnetic environment becomes more and more complex and electromagnetic warfare will be much acute in recent military combats, researches on anti-radiation missile (ARM) and anti-ARM technologies are paid much attention. Using the returns that are reflected from the targets radiated by the external illuminators, object can be detected. The multi-static radar system that based on external illuminator is superior to the active mono-static radar system in combating ARM and the stealth object.Anti-radiation missile (ARM) detection and recognition technique based on opportunity illuminators is investigated in this paper. It is analyzed that radio signal has the feasibility to detect moving object. Meanwhile, the detection coverage range is discussed. Signal processing scheme for passive radar system is proposed, which mainly includes adaptive clutter cancellation, Range-Doppler processing and Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) modules, and the feasibility of this scheme is demonstrated by simulation. According to the characteristics of velocity and acceleration in radar echoes, Range-Doppler processing is employed to detect ARM. Firstly, the approach of time-frequency analysis is exploited to obtain the acceleration of ARM. Then, the linear frequency modulation compensation technique is proposed to accumulate ARM returns, while the spectrum of aircraft echo becomes diverse. In this way ARM can be detected and recognised effectively. The simulation results confirm the availability of proposed algorithm.
