The fluid pressure pulse in water piping system can cause flow noise that affects badly the environment, leads to deterioration in operation reliability of piping system. It is one of the most extensive methods to install water mufflers in water piping system to attenuate the fluid pressure pulse and noise. Although the bladder type water muffler has the characteristics of small size, low resistance loss and good acoustic attenuation performance, in some of the applications which have strict requirements to size, its structure or size constraints will become a major influencing factor in its applications.Through simulation and model experiments, this paper studies and discusses acoustic characteristics and flow dynamic characteristics of several bladder type water mufflers with different size. This paper based on the sound-structure-interaction theory with the ANSYS software calculates and studies water mufflers' transmission loss, with the aid of FLUENT software with Finite Volume Method calculates and analyzes water mufflers' resistance loss, and has carried out acoustic characteristics and flow dynamic characteristics experimental study on test-bed. Analysis to the simulation and experimental results has summed up the mutative laws of acoustic characteristics and flow dynamic characteristics of water mufflers with the change of the length of air chamber, the air pressure of air chamber and working pressure of piping system, and some conclusions are obtained which have referenced value.
