With the large number exploitation and the increased use of non-renewable energy, the extreme changes of the Earth's climate, and the deterioration of urban living environment, energy and environmental issues have increasingly become the focus of world concern. Currently in China, the consciousness of energy conservation and protection of the ecological environment is gradually raising. The government implements a policy to solve the problem of energy-saving greenhouse gas emissions, and encourages the community to develop some products, technologies, etc of environment protection and energy saving. Building energy consumption (including the energy consumption of construction, life energy consumption, HVAC, etc.) is about 30% of the society total energy consumption, the main of which is heating and air- conditioning, accounted for 20%. And the "30%" is just the proportion of energy consumption of the building during construction and application process, if coupled with the energy consumption of building materials in the production process (16.7% of the total energy consumption), and other related energy consumption, the building energy consumption will account for 46.7% of total. Building energy saving is an inevitable trend, and now constantly developing. In the external protect structure of the building, temperature difference between the indoor and outdoor, and energy consumed for transmission caused by the roof are more than any external walls or floor, roof insulation is also important. At present, the common practice is planting roof in our country. Planting on the roof can save energy ,at the same time increase the city's green areas to improve the city's ecological environment, it serving many purposes. But planting roof is a high investment roofing practice, requiring more complicated engineering technology, and needing a large amount of the maintenance of late. Could there be a way to make the roof rapid change "green", maintenance-free and low cost in the use of the process of self-regulation? The proposal of this issue leads to the research subject of "modular ecological roof".This paper is divided into four main parts, namely: explaining the structure of the module design, plant medium and plant selection; expounding and analyzing the modules'testing results; electing the module that being more suitable for future improvement and development based on the analysis, and contrasting the module and related research at home and abroad; determining the value of modules'application from the experimental results and theoretical perspective. The four-part are indispensable, they are expounded in accordance with the four-step which start from things'birth, verification, analogy to sublimation. The content of this paper is based on the research of application subject, covering many aspects, including thermal plants and materials and so on. The key point of this article is verificating whether the object of this study save water and energy, as well as have a real ecological benefit through the experimental results and analysis.Based on the analysis of the experimental data and results, this paper can prove that the modular roof have some benefits such as low cost, low maintenance volume, simple and efficient, water saving, energy saving, well eco-efficiency, as well as a good prospect.
