Aimed at reducing the operation cost and the environment pollution, the public vehicles, taxies and the instructional cars in some cities of China are now using natural gas as the substitute of gasoline and diesel. Through oxygen rich biomass gasification, medium heat value producer gas could be produced and the producer gas could be satisfied for being as the substitute fuel for vehicle. Biomass is a kind of clean and renewable energy, it is abundant in resource and cheap in price, but its heat value is lower than the natural gas. In the view of environment, technology and economy, it has the possibility for the producer gas from oxygen rich biomass gasification being as the substitute of natural gas for vehicle fuel.Experiment has been carried out on 30kW biomass gasification power plant to study the characteristics of corn stalk briquette gasification, the comparative tests were for studying the driving characteristic and the exhaust gas emission characteristics with the producer gases produced respectively from air gasification and oxygen rich gasification. The result of air gasification shows: the moisture and dimension of biomass feedstock have certain impact on the gasification process; the Equivalence Ratio (ER) could be changed by preheating the introduced air and the producer gas composition could also be changed; the optimal ER for air gasification is 0.28-0.31. The result of oxygen rich gasification shows: the heat value of the producer gas could be increased obviously. For this experiment system, at the ER of 0.23, the gasification efficiency could reach 72%, the heat value of the producer gas could reach 10500kJ/m3, when the oxygen concentration is around 86%, the comprehensive result is optimal; after the comprehensive experiment, the conclusion is that the temperature of the reduction zone in the gasifier should be maintained within the range of 650-770℃in order to obtain the ideal heat value. The running experiment shows: the biomass gasification producer gas has shown a good suitability for beening as vehicle fuel; the power characteristic and maximum speed could been improved by using oxygen rich gasification producer gas, but there exists the knocking phenomena. The analysis on exhaust gas emission shows: the change of feedstock has slight influence on the exhaust gas emission, and has obvious influence on the HC and NOx emission. With biomass briquetting fuel as gasification feedstock, the exhaust gas emission is greatly under the limit value of GB18285-2005, among which, the emission value of CO and HC are only 5.56% and 1.11% respectively of those of the limit values of the standard, the producer gas is clean for been used as vehicle fuel.At last, the cost-effect method has been used for carried out the economic analysis on biomass gasification producer gas for vehicle fuel, the extents of various influential factors have been determined, the sensitivity analysis has also carried out. Finally, the market prospect of biomass oxygen rich gasification for vehicle fuel technology has been analyzed by cost-effectiveness method according to the experiment result.
