Rapid socioeconomic development not only upgrades the living standards of people, but also accelerates the progress of rural-urban integration and motorization. As a result, urban traffic demand has become more diverse. The characteristics of urban traffic demand, especially in Golden Weeks, are completely different from weekdays, and increasingly amounts of resultant holiday traffic problems have arisen. Therefore, it is imperative to analyze and study the characteristics of holiday trip behaviors, aiming at creating the harmonious environment for both daily traffic and holiday traffic. This paper reviewed the conventional methods and activity-based methods for trip analysis, as well as the existing researches regarding trips on holidays. The research explained the necessity to analyze the trip behaviors based on activities, and details the design of Holiday Trip Survey. Then, according to the survey data obtained during May Day Golden Weeks in Beijing, characteristics of holiday-makers and trip-chains were analyzed. A methodology to model the trip behaviors on holiday was proposed based on discrete choice models, and the model was calibrated. Moreover, the determinant factors of holiday trip mode, trip time, and modal choice were determined by hypothesis tests. The research narrows the gaps in research on holiday trip behaviors, which is an important basic aspect of the holiday traffic study. This paper has investigated the trip behavior mechanisms based on the analysis methodology for trip chains, and provides a theoretical basis for making holiday traffic policies and regulations. |
