Simulation about the target echo characteristics is a research direction of underwater acoustics. It is the base of underwater simulation technology, which can be applied to experimentation design at sea, underwater acoustic equipment test, and underwater acoustic target decoy and so on. Improve the results of the similarity of objectives are the direction of the professional.A active simulator is researched in the thesis. The target echo characteristics are compensated to the incidence signal of active sonar. Compared with the copy signal, Which is come from echo signal's simple transform, its similitude has been improved.Based on the analysis of principle on target echo, firstly, the thesis studies the characteristics of echoes, many characteristics of echo signal and copy signal which get in the experiment in the ocean have been extracted such as fluctuation of envelope, fluctuation of phase, Doppler shift, spectra spread and so on, and the differences between echo signal and copy signal have been compared; In order to simulate the characteristics of the echo, The characteristics of the target response was calculated, and the direct sound signal was compensated by the use of the frequency response. It is compared with copy signal and the algorithm is validated. Simulation device are designed and built; through the final test at sea, the hardware and software performance evaluation are carried out to verify the way and the feasibility of devices.
