With the development of vibration and noise reduction technique, the radiated noise intensity from underwater target has been reduced greatly. Then the technology of noise measurement faces a new challenge, especially on detections of low frequency and long-distance. A new method was produced with the development of the vector sensor technology. This paper studies the method of noise measurement by using vector array. This paper introduces the classifications, properties and combined directivity of vector sensors. Based on the view of the algorithm of conventional beamforming, the algorithm of time domain beamforming and frequency domain beamforming are discussed, and a correction method of the vector array beamforming is presented. Then through analyzing the properties of the wideband radiation noise measurements, a measurement system which is using a core technology of vertical vector array is presented, and the algorithm of wideband constant beamwidth beamforming is presented. Through processing sound pressure combine with particle velocity, the information of underwater target radiation noise field is entirely used. By using the aperture synthetic wideband beamforming algorithm, the theory of designing the conventional filter is improved, and a wideband constant beamwidth is reached in the appointed bandwidth. By using this beamforming algorithm, the problem of port and starboard ambiguity is solved, and the anti interference ability is improved.Based on the method in this paper, the simulation is carried and the measurement data is processed. By using a new method of sensitivity amendment, the information loss is reduced. It is effective using the aperture synthetic wideband beamforming algorithm based on vertical vector array in the wideband radiation noise measurements of underwater quiet targets.
