A novel hybrid excitation doubly salient machine (HEDSM) had been developed recently. It offers the advantages of simple structure, high performance and robust realization of field adjustment. The features make this new machine a potential candidate in the future industrial application.Firstly, this paper analyzed the configuration and the basic principle of this machine. With the finite element analysis software Ansoft Maxwell 3D, the simulation research has been conducted. The magnetic field and its static characteristics of the HEDSM have been obtained. The performances of the HEDSM, operating in generating modes, have been deduced.Secondly, an analog voltage regulator has been designed, based on adjustable bi-direction field current. The model of the HEDSM has been obtained through the step response experiment. The simulation configuration has been built in Matlab. The static and dynamic experiments have been done on HEDSM generator platform. The experimental results of three generation strategies, including SRG, DSG1, DSG2, have been analyzed.Finally, a digital voltage regulator has been designed based on the TI TMS320VC33 floating Digital Signal Processor (DSP). Digital control system simulation has been conducted in Matlab. Through the experiments on digital voltage regulator, the influence of PI parameters to dynamic performance has been analyzed.
