High-speed and high-acceleration of the development of machine tool is one of the hot issues in recent years. With the development of machining toward to high cutting speed, high-velocity and high-precision, machine tools should not only have good static characteristics, but also have good dynamic characteristics. Therefore, analysis of static and dynamic characteristics of whole machine tool has become an essential part in the design. To study the dynamic characteristics of machine tool, firstly, the dynamic model of that should be established. But it is difficult to build the finite element model(FEM)of the whole machine tool directly because the machine tool is a large complicated structure made up of many parts by a large amount of joint. In this paper, finite element model of machine tool will be divided into two components. One is theoretical model and another is experimental models.Based on studies of a variety of machine tools, divided fixed joint of machine tool into "linear" form and "array" form. Based on the finite element theory, create joint element which has eight nodes and twenty-four freedom of degrees.Secondary developed rapid dynamics modeling system of machine tool based on FEA software MSC.Patran. Used PCL language to define property and nodes of joint element. Developed experimental model database of fixed joint. Used DMIG card to input the experiment data into the PATRAN, combined the experiment model and theory model of finite element, improved the accuracy and efficiency of finite element model of machine tool.Established finite element model of Linear MC 6000 by using rapid dynamics modeling system of machine tool. Static and modal analysis have accomplished. The weak point of the gantry beam has been found out. Provided theoretical basis for optimum design of the machine tool.
