The reactive power distuibution decides the quality of the voltage and the economic running of the power grid. Reasonable distribution of reactive power compensation equipment that could not only decrease the active power loss, the voltage loss, but also enhance the grid transmission capacity and equipment utilization, it is one of the important means to achieve economic dispatch. This paper first analyses the reactive power distuibution in Benxi, proving that it is necessary to use the reactive power compensation equipment and it is useful to do the reactive power optimization. Then, the function is established, which the object is the minimum of active power losses, taking the position of the transformer tap and the capacitor into account. The genetic algotithm is presented to reactive power optimization. And then, the graphical modeling software for reactive power optimization is designed and developed, using Visual Basic6.0 as development tool, applicating the interactive CAD technology. Last, Benxi, to a 66 kV and 10 kV power network to verify, has a good result.
