With continuously and rapidly increasing of city load and much higher request for security and reliability of city power system, the city power system supplying large amount of high quality and reliability power to the city is confronted with more and more great difficulty and challenge. However, as the appearance and application of the Voltage Source Converter(VSC) with high-power and fully controlled characteristic and the high voltage Cross-linked Polyethylene Extruded(XLPE) cable, it is more important that we study on the High Voltage Direct Current(HVDC), especially the HVDC Light supplying power to the city. This thesis first demonstrates the feasibility of the HVDC Light applied to city power system in our country, then makes use of the AHP and TOPSIS method to synthetically evaluate and compare the HVDC Light applied to city power system, and gives the example to prove the availability of this evaluate method for the HVDC Light applied to city power system , finally makes use of PSS/E to simulate and analyze, it is proved that the HVDC Light has great impact on the city power system to improve system transient stability, restrain system low frequency oscillation and provide the reactive voltage supporting effect in order to improve system voltage stability, which gives very good reference value for the HVDC Light used in the city system in the future.
