A Research Of Harbin Modern Architecture Under Frigid Climate

As an indispensable product of our time, Architecture reflects its social, economical, cultural, and technical aspects. Based on influences of different factors such as site location, climatic conditions, terrain landform, national feature as well as history and culture, architecture therefore should have its unique regional characteristic. In the application of architecture designing, climate has become more and more important and has been regarded as a vital factor for designing. Moreover, with the continuously development of bioclimatology theory, it is more positive and applicable for architecture to adapt itself to the climatic conditions.Harbin, which is a freezing city in northern China, has its special climatic conditions and rich cultural context as well. With long process of development, traditional architecture in Harbin evidently reflects the features under rigid climate. Among various issues concerning architecture design, it regains recognition to study on the architecture's adaptation to climate. And to carry on the research, it is necessary to estimate various traditional methods and to develop traditional ways on nature resource, as the methods are not based on scientific research, but gathered from experience on application through generations. Analysis on adaptive relationship between its modern architecture and frigid climate will greatly help us have a systematical and comprehensively understanding on the region characteristic which architecture in Harbin conveys and also create more adaptive architecture form in frigid area.The author adopts the research method of combining systematically theory review and carefully-planned case study of the latest thoughts and design proposals together, choosing climate in frigid area as starting point of the study and conducts the research through comprehensive theory discussion, detailed case study as well as countermeasure analysis. Based on related climate theory, through discussion of adaptive relationship between modern architecture in Harbin and climate in frigid area, an in-depth observation was done upon mutual effectiveness among space, form as well as detail of modern architecture. The study explores the useful experience proposing that the architecture design in frigid area should aim at comfortable and healthy architecture environment creation.
