Permanent magnetic synchronous motor (PMSM) has the advantage such as the high power density and good operation performance; its adjustable speed drives (ASDs) control system has been applied widely in CNC, robot, aero, space, marine and other fields. However, the diode rectifier in the traditional ASDs control system has the inherent shortage of current cannot flow bi-directionally, producing harmonic pollution, and uncontrollable DC bus voltage, leading its restricted adopted in the industry.With the development of electronic and computer technology, the rectifier composed of fully controlled devices appears as the iceberg, and the PWM rectifier is most noticeable. The PWM rectifier has many advantages, such as the sinusoidal current input, controllable power factor, bi-directional current flow, controllable DC bus voltage, and the most important is its good performance in harmonic restriction and can act as an reactive-load compensation equipment. It covers the shortage of the diode rectifier, and is the inexorable trend of modern rectifier.As for the shortage of the traditional ASDs control system, replacing the diode rectifier with PWM Voltage Source Rectifier (PWM-VSR), this paper put up a new kind of four-quadrant control system of PMSM, with the hope to improve the power factor of the power grid and solve the four-quadrant operation of PMSM.In the first part of this paper, the theoretical analysis of the four quadrant operation of the PMSM is discussed; and the emphasis have been put on the mechanism analysis of the energy regeneration when PMSM operated in quadrantâ…¡andâ…£, and the detailed quantitative analysis of the regenerated energy, which provides the theoretical support of the design of the four-quadrant control system of PMSM.In the second part of this paper, the hardware and software structure of the four-quadrant control system of PMSM have been designed. As for the hardware design, the emphases are put on the main circuit design and the synchronous circuit design. According to the properties of the power grid, this paper adapts the combination of the hardware and software to quantities the oriented angle. Using the TMS320F2812DSP as the core controller, the interface between the DSP and the main circuit is designed, realizing the controlling on the PWM-VSR system.In the last part of this paper, a test platform based on the TMS320F2812DSP is designed, bringing the four-quadrant operation of PMSM come true. And the simulation results and the experimental results show the designed control system can improve the current power factor of the power grid significantly, realizing the current flow bi-directionary with a high power factor.
