In construction, the fluctuation of asphalt mixture's gradation is one of the most important factors affecting asphalt pavement performance. Volumetric parameters are widely used in field because its physical meaning is definite and experiment method is simple. Based on volumetric parameters, this paper mainly studied on the following four topics:Firstly, we analysed the rationality of using volumetric parameters to reflect the fluctuation of gradation and selected to reflect the fluntuation. Study VVshowed that tγf, VV , VMA,VFA,V be ,Vg is sensitive to the fluctuation of gradation, is used to express the change extent of gradation. VVBased on the above research, the change law and extent of VV with the gradation fluctuation is studied. VV will increase with the fine aggregate gradation changed from coarse to fine; while the coarse aggregate is changed, is the smallest when the gradation is in the middle and is the greatest when the gradation is in the upper limit. Besides, 4.75mm percentage passing has important effect to . Fine aggregate gradation observably affect the change extent of VV , but VV is less affected by the change of coarse aggregate gradation and 4.75mm percentage passing.Besides, the influence which is carried by the change of gradation to pavement performance is studied. The results showed that the change of coarse, fine aggregates, or 4.75mm percentage passing will obviously affects high temperature stability and the moisture susceptibility, but low temperature anti-split ability is less sensitive to the change of gradation. Finally, pavement quality controlling criterion is studied, and the acceptable range of volumetric parameters is put forward to ensure the pavement performance. These results will provide significative proposition in application of construction.
